The principle of screw & its application as
simple machine.
Simple machine –
It is a contrivance by the help of which a
smaller force applied to it, enables to overcome a much greater force acting at
some other point on it. The smaller force applied is called as the effort &
the greater which is to overcome is called as – the load.
Or
A machine is a contrivance by means which –
A force applied at one point of the machine is
transmitted to another in order to secure an advantage for a particular work.
Or
A machine is a contrivance by which work done
upon it’s converted into work done by it in a desired manner. In other words
machine is a device which enables us to use forces more conveniently, to do
work on machine force applied is called – effort or power.
The resting force which machine has to overcome
is called – resistance or load.
e.g. – A jack lifting on automobile van, a
press operated by hand, levers, pulley, inclined place, wheel & axle.

Principle (तत्व)
In a frictionless machine
Work done on the machine = work done by the machine
Or
Work input = work output.
If F1 – applied

F2 – force to
overcome, l – distance moved by it
Then, Work input = work output
F1 X L = F2
